201 6 OVAC Tennis Championships Day 3 Boy’s Singles The boy’s portion of the OVAC Tennis championships wrapped up today at West Liberty University with singles competition. University High finished in strong fashion for the tournament with 3 players in the finals of the singles competition. They ended up with 1 champion and 2 runnersup and first place overall as a team in this year’s event with 1 8 points. They placed first in the 5A division! The rest of the 5A division had Cambridge following close behind to gain the runnerup spot with a late surge by placing 2 players in the singles final and both won their championships. Cambridge finished the day with 1 6 team points. Parkersburg South finished a close third with 1 4 points, followed by John Marshall and Steubenville with 7 points each, Wheeling Park 3 points, and Brooke with 1 point. In the 1 A 4A division, East Liverpool took top honors with 1 2 points and 1 singles finalist who finished runnerup in the 3rd flight singles. St. Clairsville squeaked out the runnerup team spot by 1 point over Wheeling Central with 9 points and 8 points, respectively. Wheeling Central had 1 singles finalist in the 2nd flight singles division, but he was defeated in the finals. Rounding out the 1 A 4A division was Linsly and Oak Glen with 3 points each, Indian Creek with 2 points, and Weirton Madonna with 1 point. #1 Singles Ben White (Parkersburg South) defeated Drew Hawthorne (University) 8 5. #2 Singles Sam Valenzuela (University) defeated Giorgio Alexander (Wheeling Central) 8 2. #3 Singles Andrew Eddy (Cambridge) defeated Isaac Davidson (East Liverpool) 9 7. #4 Singles Joe Goggin (Cambridge) defeated Auggie Chico (University) 8 4.
